GLE 3O/4O Advanced Learning Strategies Skills for Post Secondary Success (Focus on 21st Century Skills )
Course Description:
This course focuses on essential skills that students’ require to make a successful transition to work and postsecondary education and become independent lifelong learners. The main focus of this course will be on what Assistive Technology Tools and skills are necessary when planning a post-secondary pathway. Technologies such as the SMART Board, Premier, SMART Ideas, iPad and Google Apps will be explored. To enhance the learning environment for students, online technologies such as video conferencing, collaborating online (Google docs) podcasting and wikis will be embedded through the instruction of the course. The “Get Real Game” will be implemented throughout the curriculum, in which students take on the role of a character and problem solve based on real life simulations. Three texts will be used as resources throughout the course: The 7 Habits of Successful Teens by Sean Covey, The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make by Sean Covey, and Learn Smart – Strategies to Succeed in School and Life (Jessica Pegis, General Editor). Students will learn how to assess their learning abilities and use technology, research, time management, and other techniques for promoting effective learning. In addition, they will investigate learning requirements for employment and postsecondary education or training and begin to develop plans for their learning, to explore post-secondary pathways.
