GRADE 9 GLE CLASS BLOG AND E-PORTFOLIO - LEARNING IN THE 21ST CENTURY
The GLE1O curriculum this year will include learning to be a responsible 21st century learner and communicator Therefore, one of our GLE learning goals will include implementing social networking based collaboration tools for students.
The students in GLE will creating a class blog and e-portfolio that will offer a unique learning opportunity for your student. They are fully functional web sites that are simple to create and can be updated directly from a web browser. It is a valuable teaching tool that engages every student in the writing process, fosters collaboration, and allows the students to both reflect on their own writing and react to the writing of others. The opportunity to publish online is a powerful motivator for students because it gives them a voice, an audience, and the chance to get immediate feedback. We intend to use our class blog and e-portfolio as platforms for a variety of writing exercises. Each student will contribute to the class blog by responding to prompts, sharing ideas and resources, and reflecting on learning inside and outside of the classroom. Class blog submissions will be an extension to classroom learning and will not be of a personal nature. As their culminating task, they will create their own e-portfolio that reflects their talents, skills, experiences as 21st century learners and contributors.
Online discussion boards, websites, and blogs are valuable educational tools and a part of blended learning. The ability to use the Internet as a communication and learning tool is an essential life skill that all students should possess in the 21st century.
